Amaan Update

He has been in good spirits- fantastic considering the "stress" I appear to be under. It is shameful to say the least. His strength is inspiring. I still visit twice a day, but only one long visit yesterday, August 14. He had surgery to remove dead tissue and skin around the wound. We were very lucky that a heavy monsoon rain stopped as the surgery began because the streets were briefly impassable and flooded- three times throughout an assistant poked his head out with a pharmacological order meant to be immediately filled. When I peeked at him through an open door right after they were done he gave me a sneaky smile and he doesn't seem to be in any pain.

The 72 hours following the procedure are critical- time which will show whether his leg will recover or need to be amputated at the knee. Please keep him in your thoughts. Thank you.

Amputated ?
Did the doctor explain why ?
Could you post some detail - like has the circulation in the leg been affected ?
What is the name of this hospital ?

I would rather not say which hospital to respect their privacy (in case, you know, reuters picks up the story...).

What I have been told, and you can see updated photos in a newer post, is that a great deal of the skin and underlying tissue was removed in the first operation because there was no blood flow and the skin and tissue were dying. In the most recent photo you can see that the calf muscle is also necrotic. He will soon need another operation to remove the dead tissue. I was told that at that time they will see how much more tissue/muscle has died and the need for amputatuion will be determined.

I am not a doctor, and I do not know if I have missed something crucial in this poor explanation. I am only relaying the little I have been able to gather.

Thank you.
